EKU Mock Trial Ends Fall Semester with Strong Showing in Iowa
EKU Mock Trial concluded its fall schedule with a strong finish at the Cornshucker Challenge hosted by the University of Iowa on December 2-3, 2017. EKU tied with five other teams for the second-best record in the tournament with 5 wins and 3 losses, finishing in sixth place on tiebreakers. EKU split with Ohio State, dropped two ballots to New York University, and then rallied to sweep its final two rounds against the University of Iowa and Xavier University.
Laura Jackson, a senior Political Science major from Artemus, earned an Outstanding Attorney Award, while Ryan Wiggins, a junior Political Science major from Georgetown, earned an Outstanding Witness Award. Other members of the EKU squad were Hayley Abbott, a senior Political Science major from Corbin; Cole Bailey, a freshman accounting major from Richmond; Mark Dvornak, a sophomore psychology major from Burlington; Brianna Palmer, a sophomore criminal justice major from Richmond; and Alexa Turner, a senior paralegal science and history major from Winchester. Bailey, Dvornak, Jackson, and Turner are all members of EKU’s Honors Program.
EKU’s Mock Trial Program is directed by Tom Parker, with coaching assistance from Lynnette Noblitt, Kristeena Johnson, James Pennington, and Dean Sara Zeigler.
